What is a “Zombie Walk”?
*Part 1 of “Bay of the Dead” event ~ Open to All Ages!

A Zombie Walk is a fun and participatory non-profit public performance started by horror movie fans turned mainstream/popular, where like-minded people dress up as zombies, and do what zombies do together best – lurch, shamble and drag, barely hinged limbs down the street – this is campy theatrical fun anyone can participate in!

They’re everywhere worldwide! …spreading from major to smaller urban centres, and cities are now competing to break the world record for the largest Zombie gathering. Grand Rapids, Michigan unofficially holds the 2008 Guinness World Record of 4,000 Zombies, a city similar in size to our own - are you a world record breaking city Thunder Bay?

Bay of the Dead Zombie Walk is open to all ages, and participants are asked to bring canned/non-perishable food donations for local food banks, as raising awareness of world hunger is one aspect of Zombie Walks…a BYOB or Bring.Your.Own.Brains event in more ways than one!

We’re encouraging all forms of Zombies…from high-art Mexican “Day of the Dead” zombies to the diversity of classic horror movie zombies…fast zombies, slow zombies, green and blue and grey zombies, bloody and beautiful zombies...What do we want?...Brains! When do we want them?...uunghh!

See TIMES/LOCATIONS for both the Zombie Walk & Zombie Ball further below.

MORE “ZOMBIE WALK” INFO:
What are the rules of the Bay of the Dead Zombie Walk?

We trust zombies will have eaten lots of brains and therefore have common sense. But to avoid possible complaints, we have to point out a few important rules (based on rules that have worked well at other Zombie Walks):
1.  Respect other people’s property. Eat brains, but leave no marks behind.
2.  Stay off the road, and try to shamble on the sidewalk.
3.  Avoid the Children's Festival area on Court St. when arriving and leaving the downtown.  Please do not frighten young children.
4.  You are responsible for your own corpse.
5. Respect other zombies, and the living’s personal space. No special mauling rights are given to zombies.
6.  Most importantly…Have fun!

What is a Zombie Walk like? ~ Can I bring my children?
When people ask what a Zombie Walk is like, the easiest comparison is perhaps the theatrical “let’s pretend” dress-up fun of Halloween. A closer comparison would be what it might be like to play the role of a zombie as an extra (an actor without lines) in a zombie horror movie just for a day.
Please see the Grand Rapids, Michigan video posted below, GOOGLE “Zombie Walk” for more INFO, and watch Zombie Walk videos from different cities around the world.
Watching such videos will give you a good idea of what a walk is like, and will also help you decide if you feel it is appropriate for your children to participate in.

See the inspiring video below of the Zombie Walk in Grand Rapids, Michigan which unofficially holds Guinness World Record of 4,000 Zombies ~ amazing!
